Colorado Vacations are more than Mountains

If you are heading to the state of Colorado and want an experience that you have never had before, visit the town of Marble. Located in the county of Gunnison, the best time to visit is during the summer. Visiting Marble will be something you will never forget.

It is known for, of course, marble. It is one of the largest, if not the largest, marble mines in the world. Marble from this area was said to be used for Lincoln’s memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and municipal buildings in New York and San Francisco. There is still quite a bit of marble there today. It is a beautiful place to visit and you will be amazed at the marble you will see.

Some of the marble from the city is used for gravestones in Colorado. You can see some beautiful tombstones, some in the shape of a heart. You can visit and take pictures of the Marble Mill site. The mountain sides there are dotted with white marbles that were used to help stabilize the rail roads at the time the city was so busy. Visit the marble quarry and see marble statues and marble walls. The old bridges and ladders are still in place as well.

The area is very beautiful. If you like nature and beautiful scenery, then this is the place for you. You can see mountainsides from the city filled with marble rocks. It is easy very to get to. You can drive there with a two wheel drive and make a day of it. Make sure to take plenty of film, this is an area that you will want to photograph and show off to your friends. When planning your vacation to Colorado, make sure you include Marble City. It is one place that you will never forget.
